Steaming is a traditional Chinese cooking method with a long history in Chinese cuisine.  We used to steam vegetables, initially with bamboo steamers, to enhance flavor and boost nutrition.  In this post, I will introduce two ways of steaming your tomatoes perfectly. If you love Chinese food, you might already try our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chinasichuanfood.com\/chinese-tomato-and-egg-stir-fry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tomato and egg stir fry<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although steamed tomatoes are less famous as stir fry or tomato egg drop soup, they can be something new in your taste experience. As we all know, fresh tomatoes are a good source of vitamins C, K, and A and several B vitamins.  However, there is another essential nutrition called Lycopene. <strong>When the tomatoes are well cooked, our body will better absorb the lycopene. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think steaming also makes the texture slightly different.  <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">Compared with raw tomatoes, steamed tomatoes are&nbsp;<strong>super soft and juicy, with a stronger sour and sweeter<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>taste<\/strong>&nbsp;because of the heat coming through.<\/span>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ways of steaming<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The traditional steaming method involves the adoption of a steamer, but there are several ways to steam your tomatoes.  Following are two of my favorite ways.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use a traditional steamer- this is the most common option.  You can use this method if you want to serve it as a side dish.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Steam the tomatoes with steamed rice in a rice cooker-  I would call this the new trend among young generations.  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1700\" height=\"1133\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chinasichuanfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/steamed-tomatoes-5.webp\" alt=\"steamed tomatoes | chinasichuanfood.com\" class=\"wp-image-33771\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chinasichuanfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/steamed-tomatoes-5.webp 1700w, https:\/\/www.chinasichuanfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/steamed-tomatoes-5-768x512.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.chinasichuanfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/steamed-tomatoes-5-1536x1024.webp 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1700px) 100vw, 1700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cook&#8217;s Note<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choosing a mature, high-quality tomato is the key tip for a delicious steamed tomato. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the skin before eating.   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drizzle some oil, like olive oil, can further enhance the flavor. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t throw away the juice left in your bowl. Steam for around 10 minutes after the water starts to boil.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1700\" height=\"1133\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chinasichuanfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/steamed-tomatoes-3.webp\" alt=\"steamed tomatoes | chinasichuanfood.com\" class=\"wp-image-33790\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chinasichuanfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/steamed-tomatoes-3.webp 1700w, https:\/\/www.chinasichuanfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/steamed-tomatoes-3-768x512.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.chinasichuanfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/steamed-tomatoes-3-1536x1024.webp 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1700px) 100vw, 1700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Drizzle some olive oil on the surface, and that&#8217;s the simplest steamed tomato. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steam the tomatoes with steamed rice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Wash the rice and place them into a rice cooker.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, add the appropriate amount of <strong>water<\/strong> to the rice. This step is crucial as the water-to-rice ratio affects the outcome. Your steamed tomato can be ready with the rice when well-cooked. I love this method most because it is economical, and no steamer will be needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the rice is ready, my favorite way is to peel the skin off, break the tomatoes, and let each grain
